Preparing a bed for comfort and convenience
Description
Setting the bed up in this way will allow for easy turning using a pull sheet. A pull sheet allows leverage to be used but is comfortable for the bedbound person. Water proofing will protect the bed and allow for easy cleanup.
What you'll need
- Waterproof mattress cover
- Disposable paper pads/ or waterproof bed pad
- Bed linens including additional queen sized Flat Sheet
- Pillows 4-5 (use as needed)
Task time
5-10 minutes
Steps for Initial Bed Making
- Place a waterproof mattress cover on the bed.
- Place a fitted sheet on the bed, smoothing out any wrinkles.
- Fold a queen sized flat sheet (to be used as pull sheet) in quarters and center it on the bed so that the top edge of the folded sheet is at ear level and the bottom edge is above the knees.
- Place a water proof bed pad or disposable paper pad on top of the pull sheet and position it under the waist and thigh area.
Money Saving Tips
- Purchase shower liners at discount stores and use instead of more expensive waterproof mattress pads.
- Consider purchasing waterproof cloth bed pads instead of disposable paper pads at medical supply stores.
